Grading:
Grades will be based on three portfolio reviews and the final exam. The portfolio will consist of sketchbook assignments and long term pieces that demonstrate a variety of skills.
  • Portfolio Review 1: Due October 11th (Gold Day) or October 12 (Blue Day)
    • 27 Journal Entries (completed outside of class)
    • Van Gogh Style Landscape Drawing (completed in class)
    • Flower Line Drawing (completed in class)
  • Portfolio Review 2: Due November17th (Gold Day) or November 18th (Blue Day)

  • Final Portfolio:  Due January 26th (Gold Day) or January 27th (Blue Day)

    • In class 90 minute drawing that demonstrates various skills learned through the course.

UNIT 1: LINE, SHAPE & CONTRAST
In this unit you will be exploring how to use lines to create contrast, patterna, balance, unity and emphasis in a work of art.  You will also learn how to use a grid system to create accurate proportions.

UNIT 2: PERSPECTIVE
In this unit you will use the line techniques learned in Unit 1 and apply them to a one point perspective drawing. Students who test out of one point perspective will be given the option to complete a two or three point perspective drawing. You will then apply what you learned about perspective to everyday objects.

UNIT 3: VALUE
In this unit you will continue working with your observation skills, adding in shading with drawing pencils.

GRADES:
Grades are based on demonstrating proficiency in the application of class concepts and skills. You will be given oral feedback on your projects while you work.  I will provide many examples and explanations of what A, B and C work looks like.
I WILL ASK YOU TO REVISE UNTIL YOUR WORK IS PROFICIENT.
    STORING YOUR WORK: Your class will have a shelf where your work will be stored. 

    ART FEE: There is an Art Fee of 20.00 to help pay for supplies. You can
    pay cash or check in the bookkeeping office. You will receive:

    1. Thin Sharpies & Thick Sharpies
    2. Ball point pens (color and black)
    3. Regular pencils
    4. H, 2B, 6B & 9B Drawing Pencils
    5. Drawing Paper
    6. Gummy Eraser
    7. White Eraser
    8. Stick Eraser
    9. Sketchbook
    Part of the fee goes to maintain our collection of rulers, sharpeners, sticky notes, colored pencils and other shared supplies.

    CLEANLINESS: I have high expectations for room cleanliness. 
    • Use trash and recycling containers appropriately. 
    • DO NOT DRAW ON TABLE TOPS.
    • Put your things away in your storage area. 
    • Gum goes in the trash; my daughter doesn’t need to eat your chewed gum.
    ATTENDANCE/TARDIES: I teach bell to bell. Class starts promptly
    when the bell rings and we work until the end bell. Please be on time and
    don’t pack up early. Three tardies will result in a detention. I take attendance as soon as the bell rings.


    ABSOLUTELY NO CELL PHONES IN CLASS. 
    • I will give everyone one warning when they enter the room.  After that I will call campus monitors to collect phones.
    This space RESPECTS all aspects of people including, race, ethnicity,
    gender expression, sexual orientation, socio-economic background,
    age, religion, body shape, size and ability. Calling things, people or actions “gay” or “retarded” are inappropriate, hurtful and unwelcome in this environment.
