Pattern Landscape


For this project we will be looking at the work and life of Vincent van Gogh.  You will each make a landscape drawing, based off a photograph, using black sharpies. We will focus on:
  1. Using a grid to create proportionate drawings
  2. Using a variety of lines to create patterns and contrast
  3. Using excellent craftsmanship
  4. Learning drawing basic vocabulary: Contrast, Line Weight, Variety and Contrast
Vincent van Gogh has become known for the emotional brush strokes and textures he created his paintings with.  The following images are two details from Starry Night, 1889.





After van Gogh passed away his work became increasingly popular.  Now his work is some of the most expensive art in the world.  The following piece was sold for over 100 million dollars (adjusted).  Several pieces were also sold in the 90's for between 57 and 90 million dollars.
